Overplay Cool Water Interview

Who is Cool Water?

Bold Talented Raw Real .. these are the words that describe the Atlanta Georgia based rapper cool water. Cool Water is a very complex rapper whose topic of discussion can range from things about the lottery to folks in the church. He has kept his eye on the music industry and can spot the coming and going trends which allow him to always make the adjustment needed to stay current to the fans and consumers at large.

How would you describe your music?
My music is raw, aggressive, hard core, gangsta, and real. When I say gangsta I mean the most rawest or realest picture that one can paint from an artist point of view about the conditions of life.

When were you formed and where you in other bands before?
The group I was in was called two bra's on the bench it started in 1993 at college Called Alabama State University in montgomery, Alabama . After a few years of trying to do the group thing I ended up a solo artist in 1997 do to my band member moving to Atlanta Ga. After graduation I moved on to Atlanta, Ga. to pursue the music and been a solo artist ever since.

What is your biggest Achievement thus far?
My biggest achievement thus far in the industry is being featured in Bout 2 blow magazine and being asked to go on the road with legendary rapper Krs-1 .

Your Favorite Album?
My favorite Album is Dr. Dre's Chronic , Ice Cube Death Certificate I think that's more than one opps . The creativity on these albums where just awesome. That's what the game is missing right now. So many people are just making music for the money and you can tell, because their spirit or soul is not being transfered to the music. I have been influenced by Dr. Dre, Ice Cube , Eminem, Lil' John and Russell Simmons these folks keep reinventing themselves no matter what new things evolve.

The Last Album I bought?
The last album I bought was Young Jezzy thug motivation 101

Favorite all time film and book?
That's a tough one ... My favorite movie of all time well I don't have one l like so many and my favorite book is Rich Dad poor dad . The rich dad poor dad book is the key to understanding how to get out the rat race and become independent from the nine to five life style.

Have you had any embarassing moments on stage?
I think the most embarrassing moment that I have ever had on stage was just getting booed by the crowd, because they don't like your show and you have to look those same people in the face after its done.

What is happening in the future?
In the future I am releasing the Album A Good Education Gone Bad and have released two audio Cd's Cool Water Not Just Lyric's and Cool Water the system Audio Cd. Also, another album slated for release in the later part of 2007.

If you could cover any song what would it be and why?
If I could cover any song I would cover a song on False Images. So many kids see what's on tv and get caught up. They think this stuff is easy and that making money in the music business comes overnight. So I would discuss how not to fall for the tricks and false images that you see on Tv.

What is your song writing technique?
My song writing technique starts off wit me getting into a mental mood and feeling some sort of beat . After getting into the mental mood I start to brain storming on a topic so I just write down what comes to mind. After several attempts at getting my ideas thoughts on paper, then I start putting the meat the mental picture on paper so your eyes can see what I see. I may have two or three pages on relevent info. but no structure to a strong. I will take that content I wrote and begin to organize it so that it begins to makes sense getting three verses out of two or three pages of topic. Finally, I work on the hook and metaphors that goes with the song until it is complete and write my final draft of three verses, hooks and take it to the studio.

What is your favorite chord?
All of them that come together to make a hit song

What treats and goodies would you like to have backstage before a gig?
I would like to have some Corona beer, Towls, jolly rancher candy and a home cooked lasagna meal after the show.

Are there any bands on over play that have impressed you?
Not really I am a hard person to please

Have you a piece of advice/tip you could give to an unsigned band?
Work on time mangement and planning. The more you can get done the more you will accomplish at the end of the day . Also, stay focused and network, after some years of not getting in the door right away you may lose you focus and forget your assignment. Friends, girlfriends , and haters will come and go but you've got to arrive at your goal so you must stay focused. Finally, networking everywhere you are and everywhere you are not is the key to people seeing you even when you are sleep this is most important !!!!
